When considering deportation's "immediate loss of work authorization, income, and economic contribution" it seems worthwhile to identify the hit taken by federal, state and local governments via loss of income, sales and real estate taxes, etc.

Without making any judgeemnts and letting readers choose their positions, studies by the American Immigration Council reveal that for every 1 million undocumented immigrants deported, the U.S. government would lose about $8.9 billion annually in federal, state and local tax revenues or $89 billion over the standard 10-year period that organizations like the Congressional Budget Office scores budget proposals. That equates to $1.7 trillion in government tax revenue losses over 10 years if 20 million undocumented immigrants were deported.

WOW! $8.9 billion p.a. would hit a lot of services Americans have come to rely upon. I doubt that regular folks (and Congress) connect this as part of the cost of deportations. Thanks for the illumination.
